    What is GameHelp?

GameHelp was designed to give any golfer the ability to track the
progress of their game. It will track percentages for driving accuracy
and greens in regulation. You can track putting average and average
penalties per round. It will tell you what your average is for Par 3,
Par 4 and Par 5 holes.

GameHelp will also maintain a complete database on each player
entered into the program. GameHelp also allows you to print 1 up
    mailing labels for each player.

GameHelp maintain a list of each golf course that you play,
including the Rating and Slope for each and other information.

GameHelp can be used by individual golfers, foursomes or leagues.
It is an ideal tool to have an ongoing and up to the minute gauge of
    your game status.

** NOTE ** Before a round can be entered for a player you must add at
least one Golf Course and one player record.

This will put you in the GOLFH subdirectory.

        3. Copy GAMHLP1.ZIP to this directory and unzip the file.
All of the necessary files will now be ready to use.

Once the file has been unzipped it will be ready for use. To start
GameHelp be sure you are in the directory that contains the GameHelp

    Player

If you are keeping records for several golfers or in the case of a
league, many golfers, GameHelp will let you maintain pertinent
information for each golfer on record. It uses this information when
printing mailing labels. The program will check, when adding a round
of golf, to see if the player is has been added and will not let you
enter a round of golf if the players name is not in the database.

    Add Player

From the Main Menu highlight "Player" and press the ENTER key.

    "picklist".

Type in the players address and age.

Finish filling in the balance of information on this screen.

Press the F10 key to save your entry and you will be taken back to

"picklist". If using the "picklist", highlight your selection and press
the ENTER key. You will be taken back one screen and see that the
players name has been automatically inserted for you. Press the ENTER
key again and the record for the player you selected will be displayed
    on screen.

You may use the Up or Down arrow keys to move to the field you want
change. Make your changes and press the F10 key to save the changes or
press the Esc key to abort.

    Delete Player

From the Main Menu highlight "Player" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Delete Player" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop
open allowing you to type in the name of the player you want to delete.

    record.

** NOTE ** When deleting a player, all rounds associated with this
player will also be removed. Once deleted they are gone! So
be sure you want to delete this player.

If you decide you do not want to delete this player press the Esc
key or press any other letter.

    Course

Before a round can be entered for a player you must enter
information about the golf course on which the round was played. This
information can be had, in most cases, from the card used to keep your
score on. Occassionally you will have to get the course Rating and
Slope from the golf course, if it is not listed on the card.

    Add Course

From the Main Menu highlight "Course" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Add Course" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop open
showing an empty course record. Fill in all of the information. Once
saved, this record can be edited at any time.

Type in the name of the golf course. The program will not let you go
any further if you don't. The other information will come in handy if

                                   Page 5

you want to print out a list of golf courses that you play regularly.

Type in the Par for each hole. The program will not let you move on
to the next hole if you leave a Par at 0. Each time you type in the Par
for the hole and press the ENTER key (to move to the next hole) you will
notice that the "Total" is increasing.

Type in the yardage, course Rating and Slope from the blue, white
and red tees. Again the program will not let you move to the next field
if you leave a field set at 0. You may enter the same figures from the
blue, white and the red tees, however, this defeats the purpose of
Rating and Slope for different tees.

    Edit Course

From the Main Menu highlight "Course" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Edit Course" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop open
allowing you to type in the name, city and state of the course you want
to edit. You may type in this information or press the F9 key and pick
the course from the "picklist". If using the "picklist", highlight your
selection and press the ENTER key. You will be taken back one screen
and see that the course name has been automatically inserted for you.
Press the ENTER key and the city will be inserted for you. Press the
enter key again and the state will be inserted for you. Press the ENTER
key one more time and the record for the course you selected will be
    displayed on screen.

You may use the Up or Down arrow keys to move to the field you want
change. Make your changes and press the F10 key to save the changes or
press the Esc key to abort.

    Delete Course

From the Main Menu highlight "Course" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Delete Course" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop
open allowing you to type in the name of the player you want to delete.
You may type in the information or you may press the F9 key and pick the
course from the "picklist". If using the "picklist", highlight your
selection and press the ENTER key. You will be taken back one screen
and see that the course name has been automatically inserted for you.
Press the ENTER key and the city will be inserted for you. Press the
enter key again and the state will be inserted for you. Press the ENTER
key one more time and you will be asked, "Are you sure you want to
delete this Course? (Y/N) ->". Typing in the letter "Y" will delete
    this players record.

If you decide you do not want to delete this course press the Esc
key or press any other letter.

    Round

This is where all the information for a players round is added or
    edited.

When playing a round of golf you sort of have a feeling of how you

                                   Page 6

are doing. The next time you play, you really don't have a way of
comparing the two rounds. Now you will be able to watch your ability
change (for better or worse) throughout the season and years.

Of course, doing this will require just a little extra time on your
part to record different bits of information while you are playing. It
doesn't really take a lot of extra effort to record this information on
your score card but it will be well worth the effort. This information
can be jotted down while you are waiting at the next tee.

On your score card you already keep your score for each hole. So
while you are writing, mark down the number of fairways you hit on your
drives (don't count Par 3's), the number of greens you hit in
regulation, the number of putts you take for each hole and the number of
penalties (if any) you make on the hole. With this information, when
compared over several rounds or seasons of golf, you will be able to see
where your game needs additional work and you will be able to see your
    improvement.

    Add Round

From the Main Menu highlight "Round" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Add Round" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop open
showing an empty GameHelp record. The first thing you will see is a
"picklist" that pops up allowing you to make a course selection. Use
the Up or Down arrow keys to highlight your selection and press the
ENTER key. The program automatically inserts the "Course Name" for you.

You must tell GameHelp what tees you played from. Type in the
letter "B" for blue, "W" for White or "R" for Red. The program will not
accept any other letter and will not let you move on to the next field
until the appropriate letter has been typed in. When you type in the
appropriate letter, GameHelp will display the "Yards:", "Rating:" and
"Slope:" for the tees you selected for the course you selected.

GameHelp will allow nine hole or eighteen hole rounds to be entered.
If you played eighteen holes enter the number 18. If you played nine
holes enter the number 9. The program will not let you go on unless you
enter one or the other. If you typed in the number 9 you will be
required to next type in an "F" or a "B". This allows GameHelp to
accept scores for either the Front of Back nine. If you typed in the
letter "F" you will only be able to enter scores on the Front nine. If
you typed the letter "B" you will only be able to enter scores on the
    Back nine."

Next type in the name of the player recording this round. If you
wish, you may press the F8 key and select the player from the
"picklist". The program will not let you leave this field blank.

Type in the date of the round you are recording. You do not have to
enter rounds in chronological order. The program will sort the rounds
based on the players name and date the rounds were played. Again you
can not leave this field blank.

Using your score card for the round, enter your score for each hole.

As you are adding the score on each hole the program displays the
    totals.

"Fairways Hit:", "Greens in Regulation:", "Putts:" and "Penalties:".

GameHelp will not let you enter more "Fairways" or "Greens" than are
available for the round you are entering at the course you selected.

Press the F10 key to save your entry and you will be taken back to

don't use the "picklist" the first occurrence of two or more
rounds (for the same player on the same date) will be
                displayed.

You may use the Up or Down arrow keys to move to the field you want
change. Make your changes and press the F10 key to save the changes or
press the Esc key to abort.

round will be to select the round from the "picklist!" If
you don't use the "picklist" the first occurrence of two or
more rounds (for the same player on the same date) will be
displayed, thus causing you to delete the wrong round.

If you decide you do not want to delete this Round press the Esc key
    or press any other letter.

    Utility Menu

    Select Printer

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Select Printer" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop
open showing a "picklist" of printers to choose from. Use the Up or

You will then be asked to select a printer port. Type in the number 1,
2 or 3. The number 1 will tell GameHelp to use LPT1 as the printer

The number 3 will tell GameHelp to use LPT3 as the printer port.

If you don't see your printer listed here, select one that your
printer emulates. If you are not sure which one your printer emulates
    select the "Unlisted Printer".

    Player Labels

GameHelp uses 1 up (one label to a row) labels for all label
    printing.

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Player Labels" and press the ENTER key. You will be asked if
you want to print a sample label. If you want to align the labels in
the printer type in the letter "Y". You may repeat this step until you
are satisfied with the alignment. Once you are satisfied with the
alignment type in the letter "N" and GameHelp will print one label for
each player in the database. When the labels have been printed you will
be returned to the Main Menu.

    Reindex Databases

Occasionally, index files may be corrupted in some fashion. This
process rebuilds the index files so that records in the database can be
quickly located by the program. As the databases grow in size the
reindexing process takes longer to complete. This is because there is
    more information to sort through.

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Reindex Databases" and press the ENTER key.

When Reindex Databases is selected from the submenu a progress gauge
will appear at the bottom of the screen. This gauge will show the
progress of each index file as it is being rebuilt. When the last index
file has been rebuilt you will be returned to the Main Menu.

    Pack Databases

Even though you have deleted records and they are no longer visible
within the program you must pack the database to physically remove the
deleted records. Packing will do nothing else by remove deleted
    records.

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Pack Databases" and press the ENTER key. A window will pop
open explaining what packing is. You will be asked, "Are you sure you
want to PACK all databases? (Y/N) --> _". Type in the letter "Y" to
pack the databases. If you wish to abandon this operation press any
other letter or press the Esc key.

    Backup Databases

There are several good reasons why you should get into the practice
of backing up your files. Computers are an excellent tool for keeping
information. There are, however, certain circumstances that can cause
computers to corrupt data files. For example, if the program is writing
information to a disk and there should be a power failure, chances are
that the data file that is being written to will be no longer useable
    (corrupted).

If you have never made a back up of the data within your files, you
would have to re-enter every bit of data that was stored in those files.
This would be a tremendous amount of work and wasted time. If you made
a backup of your data on a regular basis, you could restore everything
that was on the computer prior to the back-up in a very short time.

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Backup Databases" and press the ENTER key. The program will
ask you which floppy disk drive to use for backup. Type in either 'A'
or 'B' and press the ENTER key. The program will calculate how many
bytes will be required to do the backup and you will be asked if you
want to continue with the backup. Make sure you have an ample supply of
formatted floppy diskettes on hand to complete the backup. The program
will then copy all of the data files to the floppy diskette(s) in the
floppy disk drive that you specified.

If your backup requires more than one diskette you must label and
number each diskette accordingly. For example, when Backup Disk #1 is
full the program will prompt you to insert a second diskette. Remove
the first diskette and place the label that is marked "Backup disk #1 on
it. Insert the second diskette into the floppy disk drive that you
specified and press the ENTER key and the backup will continue. When
the second diskette is full you may need a third or forth. The program
will indicate that the backup is complete (by a series of beeps from
your computers speaker). Make sure that each diskette is properly
labeled so that if you need to restore you databases the diskettes will
be inserted in the proper order.

It is good practice to write on the label before it is applied to
the diskette. If the backup requires more than one diskette label each
succeeding diskette accordingly (Backup Disk #2, Backup Disk #3, etc).
Never put the label on a diskette and write on it with anything but a
soft felt tipped pen. Doing so will probably damage the diskette.

    Restore Databases

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Restore Databases" and press the ENTER key. The program will
ask you which floppy disk drive to use for the restore. Type in either
'A' or 'B' and press the ENTER key.

The program will ask you if you would like to proceed. Type in the
letter 'Y' to proceed or the letter 'N' if you do not want to proceed.
Insert Backup Disk #1 into the floppy drive and press the Enter key.
The program will prompt you to insert each backup disk as required.

The program will quickly restore the (safe) files from the floppy
diskette(s) back onto the hard drive for use by the program.

    Purge All Players & Rounds

Should you have a need to delete all players and all rounds you may
do so by purging these to databases. Be sure you want to do this before
proceeding. All player and rounds information will be lost,
    permanently!

From the Main Menu highlight "Utility" and press the ENTER key.
Highlight "Purge All Players & Rounds" and press the ENTER key.

        The following message will appear on the screen;

       Ŀ
Periodically, you may want to purge all Players and Rounds
databases to start fresh for the new season. This action
will completely delete all Players and Round information!

Are you sure you want to PURGE all databases? (Y/N) --> _

Keep in mind that you will want to keep all records from year to
year. The only time you should use this operation is to completely
start over again. Purging does not delete course information.

    Reports

There are four reports that use information contained within the
databases. These reports can either be displayed on screen or sent to
    the printer.

List All Players - will give you an alphabetical list of all players
on record along with their address and phone numbers.

Individual Player Stats - will give you a summary sheet for any
    player on record.

List of Country Clubs - will give you an alphabetical list of all
    coutry clubs on record.
