1.1 About File Manager Toolbar
------------------------------

FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11. It provides File Manager with a toolbar,
similar to that used in File Manager for Windows for
Workgroups(tm).

FM Toolbar is a great timesaver. Statistics shows that toolbar for
File Manager is one of two main reasons why individual users of
Windows 3.1 upgrade to Windows for Workgroups (the other reason is
slightly improved performance). FM Toolbar is an alternative,
effective and inexpensive way to upgrade your system. FM Toolbar
will save you a great deal of time! With FM Toolbar your will work
with File Manager easier and faster.

Try it - and you won't believe you worked without FM Toolbar
before.

The way software should be!

1.2. This is shareware: TRY BEFORE YOU BUY !
--------------------------------------------

This is NOT a free or public domain software. This is SHAREWARE,
i.e. copyrighted software which you can "try before you buy".
Shareware is a great concept and we encourage you to try out File
Manager Toolbar and pass along the unregistered copies to your
friends.

You may try the program for the evaluation period of up to 14
days. After that time, you are required to purchase the software
through registration or else discontinue its use. (please read the
complete text of your License agreement in section 3 of this file).

Unlicensed copies of our products are 100% fully functional. We
make them this way so that you can have a real look at them, and
then decide whether they fit your needs or not. Our entire
business depends on your honesty. If you use it, we expect you to
pay for it. We feel that if we treat you right, you will treat us
right.

When you pay for the shareware you like, you are voting with your
pocketbook, and will encourage us to bring you more of the same
kinds of products.

You may freely copy the FM Toolbar software, and give it to
anybody (please read the full text of you license agreement in
file LICENSE.TXT ). FM Toolbar is a self-unregistering software,
i.e. it automatically becomes unregistered when you copy it to
another disk or computer. You can re-register it any number of
times, but only if you know your Registration Number. This means
that you can make and install as many copies of the FM Toolbar as
you wish on as many computers as you can, provided that you do not
share your Registration Number with anybody and there is NO
POSSIBILITY to use your Registered copy by anybody else. You may
not use a copy of the FM Toolbar registered to anybody else
(except site license arrangements). In simple words, every user of
the FM Toolbar must be licensed.

About Registration Reminder:
---------------------------
Sometimes when you start or close File Manager, the registration
reminder screen is displayed. This is the ONLY difference between
registered and unregistered versions of the FM Toolbar (unless
you've obtained a newer version of the software from us). In fact,
when you register FM Toolbar, we provide you with a unique
registration number which can be used to suppress the
registration reminder screen.

1.3 WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU REGISTER File Manager Toolbar ?
--------------------------------------------------------------

1. The personal Registration Number, allowing you to remove
registration reminder and put your name in the About FM Toolbar
   screen.

2. Lifetime right to upgrade to new versions of the FM Toolbar
FREE (i.e. you will be able to use the same Registration Number
to register any future version of the FM Toolbar, obtained from
   us or other source).

3. Disk with the latest version of the FM Toolbar (optional).

4. The privilege to be personally informed about new major
releases of the FM Toolbar and other software products from
   ChaoSoft.

5. FREE 90-days customer support through electronic or regular mail.

1.4. How to register FM Toolbar
-------------------------------

You can register your copy of the FM Toolbar software with a
personal check, money order, or currency. Please print out one of
the files listed below, fill it in, and send it to ChaoSoft's
address along with you registration payment. The following files
on your installation disk contain order forms:

    ORDRFORM.TXT - single-user order/registration form
    ORDRSITE.TXT - multy-user order/registration form

Orders within USA are shipped through USPS, first class.
International orders are shipped via Airmail. To reduce your
possible customs taxes (if any), the contents of the package will
be described as follows: "Letter", (or, if you are ordering a
diskette with the latest version of the software: "Letter;
Diskette"), that almost never is taxable.

We understand that in some cases (international orders,
especially) payment with a check drawn on a US bank, written in US
funds, is not always possible. That's why we accept other forms
of payment as well:

o Through an international postal money order from your local post
  office, written in US dollars.

o Through American Express money orders payable in US currency.
They are commonly available in your commercial banks.

o You may mail US currency directly to us. Most foreign banks have
  US currency readily available.

If you decide to send us cash, we encourage you to obtain a
low-cost "Certificate of Mailing" (USPS form 3817) or equivalent,
or even send your letter certified. It will help us to find your
letter if (that is very rare) Post Office will fail to deliver it
to us. Please, don't include coins; the total payment amount
should be rounded to the nearest "paper" unit.

//
// 2. INSTALLING File Manager Toolbar
//
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
stand-alone program: there is no special executable file you would
run to start the FM Toolbar. To use the FM Toolbar software, all you
need is properly install it, and it will be used automatically every
time you run the File Manager.

Please follow these simple rules to install the FM Toolbar:

2.1. Using INSTALL utility
--------------------------

1. If not already running Microsoft Windows, start Windows 3.1 or
   Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

2. If the FM Toolbar package came to you compressed, uncompress it
into some temporary directory on either your hard or floppy
disk. If you got the package on the original installation
diskette, insert it into a floppy drive (A or B).

3. Select the File | Run menu option of the Program Manager or
File Manager, and type into the Run dialog box:

                a:install

and press Enter (or click OK button). If problems occur,
include the full path to the directory where you have the FM
   Toolbar files placed.

4. The installation program will prompt you for any additional
   information needed.

5. The installation program will copy all the necessary files to a
specified directory on your hard disk, create the program group
'FMToolbar', and make an entry in the WINFILE.INI file declaring
the FM Toolbar as an extension of the File Manager.

After the installation complete, you can immediately start using
File Manager enhanced with FM Toolbar.

2.2. Manual installation
------------------------

If the automatic installation fails by any reason, you can install
the FM Toolbar manually:

1. Create a directory on a hard disk for FM Toolbar, say
C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
   from it.

2. Close File Manager.

3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
your hard disk (or directory you specified when installing
Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, not
   WIN.INI.

Find the section [AddOns] in this file and place the following
string right after the string [AddOns]:

        FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL

(or specify the directory you copied the FM Toolbar's files in,
   if other than TOOLBAR).

The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
   this:

        ...
        [AddOns]
        FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
        ...

(... means other lines of the file). Save the file.

5. Run File Manager.

You shell find new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the
File Manager's main menu, if the installation has been completed
successfully. If you cannot see the 'Toolbar' item in the main menu
of the File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify that you
have done all the steps above, and, particularly, specified
correct path in the [AddOns] section of the WINFILE.INI file.

2.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
----------------------------

You can prevent File Manager from loading the FM Toolbar by simply
commenting out the 'FM Toolbar=...' entry in the [AddOns] section
of the WINFILE.INI file in your WINDOWS directory (i.e. placing
the semicolon symbol (;) as the very first symbol of the string
starting with the words 'FM Toolbar='). Doing so you retain the
chance to return to using the FM Toolbar anytime later by restoring
the string in its original appearance without going through the
reinstallation process again. You can do this procedure with any
text file editor, for example, Notepad.

Another way, equivalent to the above, is to rename the directory
you installed the FM Toolbar in. If File Manager cannot locate any
file specified in the [AddOns] section, it just skips it without
any error message. To force File Manager to load FM Toolbar later,
you can restore the original name of the FM Toolbar directory on
your disk.

If you, to our regret, decided to stop using FM Toolbar and remove
it from your system permanently, please follow these steps:

1. Run INSTALL utility from the FM Toolbar installation disk.
If it detects the presence of the FM Toolbar in your
system, it gives you a chance to uninstall it without
actually installing FM Toolbar again. What INSTALL does in
this case it removes the 'FM Toolbar=...' entry from the
WINFILE.INI file. It does not delete any files described
below; you should remove them from your system yourself.

Alternatively, you can perform this step manually:

        a) Open file WINFILE.INI for editing, find the string
starting with the words 'FM Toolbar=' in the section
[AddOns], and remove it . Save the file.

        b) Restart File Manager.

2. Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk
you installed FM Toolbar in (C:\TOOLBAR by default) as
well as the directory itself, if you wish.

3. Delete program group 'FM Toolbar' using Program Manager,
        if any.

We hope you will change your mind!
