BSO/TASKING Announces Complete Support for Motorola's New 68HC08
Architecture

DEDHAM Massachusetts - July 20 - BSO/TASKING announced today a complete
software development solution for the Motorola 68HC08. This software
development toolkit will give existing 68HC05 users the ability to migrate
straight to the new 68HC08 and subsequently take advantage of all the
68HC08 improvements in speed and flexibility. The software development
tools consist of an ANSI C compiler, Motorola compatible assembler,
linker/locator, libraries and a high level language debugger interfacing
to one of two execution environments; simulator or the Motorola MMDS08
emulator.

"There were several objectives to be achieved with the development of these
tools", said Frank vd Berg project manager for the 68HC08 development
project, "The compiler had to produce very efficient code; we needed to
ensure that there was a migration path from 68HC05 assembly language to
68HC08 assembly language and; we had to provide engineers with a cost
effective debugging environment. The BSO/TASKING 68HC08 toolkit has
achieved all these objectives".

The C compiler performs a number of optimizations to ensure the appropriate
balance between size and speed of code. These optimizations are switch
selectable and the engineer can optimize selectively for size and speed.
These optimizations together with the support for all the different memory
models ensure that the user gets the most efficient code (30% less code
than other currently available compilers).

The BSO/TASKING 68HC08 assembler is upward compatible with the 68HC05. The
ability to migrate from the popular Motorola 68HC05 to the 68HC08 is
guaranteed at the instruction set level. However different assemblers have
different directives and the BSO/TASKING 68HC08 assembler will support the
popular 68HC05 assemblers.

CrossView Windows is BSO/TASKING's high level C and assembly language
debugger running under Microsoft Windows and X Windows. CrossView windows
features multiple child windows, extensive menus and dialog boxes, user
programmable buttons and an accelerator bar to provide quick access to
frequently used debugging commands. The CrossView 68HC08 execution
environment is either a simulator or the Motorola MMDS08 emulator. The
simulation environment is a cost effective way of providing engineers with
debugging stations for software testing and evaluation . The simulator
enables the engineer to test software in a known and repeatable
environment. The emulator environment is used for integrating the software
and hardware and testing the complete application. Both environments have
identical user interfaces so project engineers do not have any unnecessary
learning as they move from one environment to another. To encourage other
emulator manufacturers to integrate their emulators with CrossView
BSO/TASKING will provide the necessary interface documentation.

BSO/TASKING is a leading developer and supplier of integrated software
development tools for the embedded systems industry, supporting a wide
range of CISC, RISC and DSP semiconductor technologies. The company also
provides quality in-circuit emulation systems, supporting a wide range of
microprocessors and microcontrollers. BSO/TASKING international
headquarters is located in Dedham, Mass., with European headquarters in
the Netherlands. In addition the company has offices in Milan, Stuttgart,
London, Paris and Tokyo, plus a worldwide distribution network spanning 18
additional countries.

The BSO/TASKING HC08 compiler package (compiler, assembler, linker/locator
and libraries) is priced at $1300 hosted on PC-DOS, the debugger,
CrossView Windows, is priced at $ 1100 hosted on PC-DOS. Availability: The
HC08 toolkit will be available on PC-DOS, SUN4 SUNOS and Solaris, HP9000
family, IBM RS6000 DEC VAX, DEC Ultrix and DEC Alpha.
