PC-Based Arbitrary Waveform Generator Offers 12-Bits at 50 MSPS

July 1, 1994 -- The PCI-311 and PCI-312 Arbitrary Waveform Generators
occupy one PC expansion slot and combine the performance of stand-alone
generators with the convenience of the personal computer. Key features of
the single channel PCI-311 and the dual channel PCI-312 include:

* 12-Bit Output DACs with Update Rates to 50 MSPS,
* 32 kSample Memory on Each Channel,
* Memory Segmentation with Looping and Linking, and
* 12 Volts Peak-to-Peak into 50 Ohm.

The PCI-311 and PCI-312 also provide 0.01% frequency accuracy, five
selectable output filters, gain and offset controls, and nine built-in
waveforms. The output waveforms are accessible via BNC connectors as is
the Sync Out signal. An input BNC connector is provided for signals that
are triggering the generator or for use with an external reference clock.
Both generators are capable of 10 MHz sine waves and pulses with 20 ns
widths and 12 ns risetimes.

The waveform memory can be divided into 99 segments, with each segment
containing a different waveform. Test engineers can link segments together
in a random order, and each segment can be repeated up to 32768 times.
This extensive memory control makes it possible to create complicated
waveforms such as video test patterns, simulations of hard disk drive
data, and encoded communication signals. Waveforms can be created by using
either BenchTop or BenchCom software, or they can be imported from
spreadsheets or math programs, or they can be captured and transferred
from one of PC Instruments' oscilloscope cards. Waveforms can also be
modified with a mouse with either BenchTop or BenchCom.

BenchCom software is included with every arbitrary waveform generator and
provides test engineers and systems integrators the tools necessary to
integrate the PCI-311 and PCI-312 scopes into their test environment. Also
available is the optional BenchTop software. BenchTop provides a
"point-and-click" graphics user interface with the ability to store and
recall waveforms, store and recall test set-ups, and automate test
routines.

Test, production, and manufacturing engineers will find that the
performance and the convenience of the PCI-311 and PCI-312 will be a
valuable asset to their ATE systems. And researchers and component test
engineers will benefit from the flexibility and waveform control of these
new generators. When these PC-based instruments are compared to standalone
waveform generators, the PC Instruments' generators cost less, take up
less bench/rack space, and do not require an IEEE-488 interface board,
cable, and software.

The single channel PCI-311 sells for $1495 and the dual channel PCI-312
sells for $1995. BenchTop software is available for $495. Availability is
6 weeks after receipt of order. For further information contact:
