The Adventure of a Lifetime

SALS: Shuttle Approach & Landing Simulator

The Shuttle Approach and Landing Simulator (SALS) features the graphic
actualization of the same scenes that a NASA astronaut approaching the
Kennedy Space Center would experience. Incorporating true-to-life voice
traffic from mission control as well as manipulation of all the variables
that play a part in how successful your landing will be SALS is a superb
flight. Preflight checks will determine wind shear, air speed, descent
rate and alignment; allowing the user to vary the level of difficulty.
Step on board this rocket of hair raising fun and dangerous maneuvers to
pit your skills against the elements.

The Task

The space shuttle has just entered the atmosphere from its orbit, you now
have 64,000 feet in which to gain control of the spaceship and safely
guide it onto the dangerously narrow piece of asphalt called the landing
strip. Take over the stick; control your pitch and roll to try and bring
the 20 million dollar shuttle down. Be forewarned; anything can happen!
Mission control has just informed you everything's "nominal" as your
approach the HAC. Suddenly, onboard cues indicate the speedbrake has
failed to open. You realize immediate adjustments are required to achieve
a successful landing. Will you be able to compensate in time? Take over
manual control at Mach 1 and glide the orbiter to a successful landing...
but remember, you only get one chance!

The Experience

Fly the most accurate simulation of Shuttle Guidance, Navigation, Control
and Aerodynamics available. Apply realistic re-entry flight instruments
and pilot aids. Experience detailed day and night visual scenes of the
Cape Canaveral area from inside the orbiter or as a NASA "Chase Plane"
pilot. Recreate the same unexpected approaches for which astronauts train
thousands of hours. Listen to realistic mission control voice commands.
Relive your successes and failures with the post-flight playback
capability.
