SoftArc Announces Internal TCP/IP Support for FirstClass Group
Communication Software

--Multiprotocol Workgroup Server Now Accepts IPX, AppleTalk,
Asynchronous Connections and TCP/IP Simultaneously--

MARKHAM, Ontario, July 19, 1994--SoftArc Inc., a leading developer and
manufacturer of enterprise-wide, cross-platform group communication
software, today previewed direct support for the popular Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networking protocol in its
multiprotocol groupware system FirstClass. Internal support of TCP/IP will
allow users of SoftArc's FirstClass client software on Windows PCs or
Macintoshes to make TCP/IP connections to a FirstClass server by selecting
TCP/IP in a connection setup popup box.

Once configured with the FirstClass TCP/IP option, the FirstClass server
will recognize the login and treat the client as any other FirstClass
user. Direct support of TCP/IP will allow users on TCP/IP networks to
connect to FirstClass servers with ease, while also allowing effortless
access to FirstClass servers--or even server to server
connections--through the global Internet.

"Few electronic communication systems accept multiple protocol logins
simultaneously," said SoftArc's president, Steven Asbury. "FirstClass'
internal support for TCP/IP, along with IPX, AppleTalk and asynchronous
connections, serves to illustrate SoftArc's ongoing commitment to be the
premier provider of multiprotocol communication solutions. And this is
just the tip of the iceberg regarding our extended TCP/IP services-we've
got much to unveil in the near future."

Users of the FirstClass client for Macintosh must run Apple's MacTCP
extension in order to make connections on a TCP network. Similarly, users
of the FirstClass client for Windows must have Windows configured with a
Windows Sockets-compliant TCP stack.

The FirstClass TCP/IP Protocol has already been implemented at select
corporate sites (namely KPMG Peat Marwick and Wellfleet Communications).
SoftArc will begin volume shipment of new TCP/IP-enabled versions of its
FirstClass server and clients to the general public by October. The
FirstClass TCP/IP Protocol Module will have a list price of $995 (client
software is free).

FirstClass is a cross-platform, enterprise-wide group communication system
that integrates state-of-the-art e-mail with group conferencing, access to
existing corporate databases, forms processing, real-time discussions and
on-line communications functions. FirstClass offers the same ease of use,
functionality and robust performance over network or modem, and operates
in Macintosh, Windows DOS, OS/2 and terminal emulation environments. The
product is available in 12 different languages and is used by businesses,
educational institutions, government and private individuals in more than
30 countries worldwide. The Company is headquartered in Markham, Ontario,
Canada.
