STEREOGRAPHICS AND 3D WORKS UNVEIL STEREOSCOPIC IMAGE PRODUCTION SERVICE

3D New Media Presentations Stored on CD ROM and Photo CD

San Rafael, CA -- July 11, 1994 -- StereoGraphics Corporation and 3D Works,
Inc., Mill Valley, CA, today introduced a new production service that
displays high-resolution stereoscopic images on a video monitor or
projection screen. The resulting presentations can be viewed using
StereoGraphics lightweight CrystalEyes glasses and stored on CD-ROM, hard
disk, or Photo CD, making them an ideal vehicle for corporate
communications, education and entertainment. Potential venues for the
stereoscopic presentations include trade shows, museums and galleries,
architectural firms, automobile dealerships and other retail operations.

StereoGraphics is the world's largest supplier of three-dimensional
electronic stereo display equipment. Company products are marketed
domestically through resellers, and internationally through distributors
in Japan, Europe, and the rest of the world.

"Imagine photographs and computer-generated images so life-like that you
are tempted to reach out and touch them," said Lenny Lipton, founder and
vice president of product development for StereoGraphics Corp., whose
CrystalEyes viewing systems are an integral part of the technology. "What
Viewmaster brought to slide viewing, 3D Works has brought to the business
of producing video-based 3D stereo images."

3D Works, a video production house based near San Francisco, developed its
service based on StereoGraphics technology that has become widely adopted
in engineering, biomedical, CAD/CAE, telecommunications, aerospace, and
manufacturing. StereoGraphics viewing systems have been used by NASA to
pilot remote vehicles, by Lockheed to view a virtual prototype of the
recent Hubble Telescope retrofit, and by automobile makers to view
prototype designs before they are physically modeled.

"Stereoscopic display is the newest of the new medias," said Steve
Andersen, 3D Works co-founder. "It adds the sizzle companies need to draw
an audience, while conveying complex concepts much more clearly.
Architectural plans, medical images, engineering designs, and Michelangelo
sculptures are all dramatically clearer when viewed in true 3D stereo."

Like conventional 2D presentations, 3D Works stereo images can be shown
interactively using a touchscreen or mouse, or in a fixed sequential
format. The system can support virtually any number of CrystalEyes units
-- audience size is limited only by the dimensions of the screen. The
images themselves can be stored in one of four system configurations:
CD-ROM players, CD-ROM player and computer, hard disk, and Photo CD.
Because a computer is not mandatory, presentations can be easily
transported from one site to another.

Stereo images on video

3D Works presentations make use of StereoGraphics' CrystalEyes viewing
system which replicates the binocular vision that we take for granted in
viewing our everyday surroundings. Ordinarily, each eye takes in the world
from a slightly different perspective. The brain then fuses these images
into a single image that has depth -- an effect known as "stereopsis."

To replicate this effect on a video monitor, CrystalEyes incorporates
liquid crystal shutters that turn opaque, transparent, and opaque again in
rapid succession. Hence, when the left image is displayed for a fraction
of a second on the monitor, the left lens opens up as the right lens
closes, thereby directing the image to the left eye. A similar sequence
occurs with the right hand image and the combination results in a
full-color, stereoscopic image.

The "stereo pairs" needed for a 3D Works presentation are photographed by
3D Works with two still cameras positioned side-by-side. The firm can also
generate stereo images using any software program, including many design
packages, that make use of a three-dimensional database.

StereoGraphics and 3D Works also provide turnkey systems to view the
completed presentation, including the CrystalEyes viewing system, and a
wide variety of stereo-ready monitors and video projection systems.

3D Works, Inc., specializes in the integration of traditional stereo
photography with state-of-the-art 3D computer images and environments. A
full-service production house, the company can script, shoot and score a
complete stereo production, or serve as a consultant on any phase of the
project. 3D Works can be reached at 415/381-5963, fax 388-4167.

StereoGraphics Corp., founded in 1980, invented and developed the market
for modern stereo imaging hardware. Due to its capability, reasonable
price and state-of-the-art technology backed by 14 patents, CrystalEyes
systems are accepted as the industry standard for stereo viewing.
