SYBASE NOW OFFERS CLASSES THROUGH AUTHORIZED THIRD-PARTY TRAINERS

Customers Have Greater Access Than Ever to Popular Sybase Client/Server
Classes through New Authorized Sybase Education Provider Program

EMERYVILLE, CA, July 26, 1994 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise Client/Server
Company, today announced that Sybase-developed courseware on SYBASE
technology and products are now available through third-party training
providers as part of the new Authorized Sybase Education Providers (ASEPs)
program. The program, which complements classes available through Sybase's
learning centers, has been developed to address the rapidly growing
customer demand for SYBASE training. The new ranks of ASEP instructors are
Sybase-certified educators who have completed training and rigorous
testing to ensure they meet Sybase's high-quality education standards.
Users, who can call Sybase to register for Sybase-developed courses
delivered by either Sybase or its ASEPs, now have more convenient access
to SYBASE courses than ever.

"The rapid adoption of SYBASE products, with customer sites nearly doubling
each of the last three years, has brought a tremendous demand for classes
that teach businesses how to effectively leverage client/server
technology," said Steve Sharp, vice president of Sybase Worldwide
Professional Services. "Through our new Authorized Sybase Educator
Provider program, we can now greatly expand the availability of popular
SYBASE classes while maintaining the high quality of education that has
distinguished Sybase in the client/server market."

ASEP Program Offers Quality, Convenience

With the ASEP program, Sybase provides the most seamless integration
between in-house and third-party training offered by any database vendor.
A key program feature that Sybase offers is "co-registration." Customers
can call a Sybase 800-number to register for the classes of their choice,
whether they are provided by Sybase or an ASEP. The Sybase registration
staff can also advise customers on course availability at both ASEP and
Sybase training locations.

All ASEPs meet rigorous standards for teaching experience, educational
materials, and facilities (classrooms, computer equipment, etc.), to
ensure that the quality of education they offer is consistent with that of
SYBASE classes. Individual trainers within ASEP organizations are only
allowed to teach classes for which they have been specifically certified
Once trainers and facilities have been certified, they are regularly
evaluated through student evaluations and unannounced class monitoring
Additionally, Sybase works regularly with ASEPs to ensure that third-party
educators have the latest information and materials from Sybase.

Today six ASEPs have been certified and are delivering SYBASE classes:
Anatec, with classes in Detroit and Minneapolis; The Database Group,
Charlotte, NC; McHale US Connect, Cleveland; MIDAK, Phoenix; SoluTech, St.
Louis; and the University of Miami. ASEPs are selected, not only for their
educational experience, but also for the ability to complement existing
Sybase training centers. For example, ASEPs represent different geographic
locations, and the University of Miami offers classes in both English and
Spanish.

Phil Grasser, a database analyst for the USA Group in Fishers, IN, has
participated in one of the pilot ASEP training sessions conducted by
Anatec in Detroit. "We were impressed by the course taught by Anatec. Our
instructor had a good knowledge of SYBASE and very strong presentation
skills," said Grasser. He added, "The class size was small, and we
received a good deal of individualized training. We definitely got what we
wanted out of the class."

In the coming months, Sybase plans to expand its base of ASEPs in the
United States, Europe, and other Sybase sales regions worldwide. The
company is actively recruiting a variety of education providers as well
Sybase Open Solutions partners including value-added resellers, systems
integrators, and independent software vendors Two of the ASEPs now
offering classes, MCHale US Connect and MIDAK, also participate in
Sybase's Open Solutions program for channel partners.

Class Availability and Pricing

The first courses now being offered by ASEPs are Introduction to SQL and
Fast Track to SYBASE. They are Sybase's two most popular classes and
provide the foundation for developing and maintaining a client/server
system. ASEPs participating in Sybase's course co-registration program
provide training for the same cost as Sybase. Introduction to SQL, a
one-day course, is $350. Fast Track to SYBASE, a five-day course, costs
$1,400. Like Sybase training centers, all ASEPs accept a range of payment
options, including Sybase training units and prepaid education dollars.
Sybase plans to offer additional classes through ASEPs over the next
year.
