VI-SPY SCORES BIG IN INTERNATIONAL ANTI-VIRUS SHOWDOWN

July 13, 1994 -- Scottsdale, AZ...The showdown was played out over the past
two months in a town just outside of London, England. There, U.S.
publisher RG Software put its Vi-Spy anti-virus software up against 25 of
the top anti-virus products from around the world, including those from
Germany, Finland, England, Israel along with others from the U.S.

When the drives stopped spinning, and the test systems were cleared,
industry newsletter Virus Bulletin reported that Vi-Spy was the only
American product to gain a score of 95% or more. In fact, the U.S.-based
newsletter reported Vi-Spy achieved an overall rating of 97.5% ...second
only to a 99% rating for ThunderBYTE, a product published and supported
out of Holland. A U.K. product called Sweep also scored 97%.

In all, the products were tested for their speed and thoroughness in
detecting four different virus types -- which when combined -- totalled
nearly 1100 viruses. Among the test groups was a classification known as
"in the wild", which are viruses known to be actively problematic to
users.

"Well, of course, if I had my way", said RG Software president Ray Glath,
"I would have rated us at the top since we actually outperformed
ThunderBYTE by detecting 100% of the 'in the wild' viruses." But, he
noted, the difference apparently came down to a slight edge in polymorphic
type viruses.

While the top companies were splitting percentage points, Virus Bulletin
editor Richard Ford indicated companies at the other end of the list could
be in for some trouble. "Certain manufacturers will need to make radical
changes to their products if they wish to remain contenders," he said. The
results showed Microsoft's Anti-Virus for DOS to have an overall score of
51%, while Central Point products were approximately 53%. McAfee's newest
product, Scan Version 2, received a 78.7% rating and missed 9 "in the
wild" viruses. F-Prot Professional missed 1 "in-the-wild" virus and almost
20% of the polymorphic viruses; IBM Anti-Virus missed 5 "in-the-wild"
viruses and 20% of the polymorphic viruses.

"Although we're pleased with the results of the evaluation", Mr. Glath
said, "we really tend to match ourselves against the competition on issues
relating to service. Mr. Glath cited a recent independent survey of
corporate anti-virus software users. The survey revealed users who had to
wait for days (one individual beyond a week) to get help from anti-virus
vendors on virus-related matters. Said Mr. Glath, "More times than not,
our customers reach us directly on their first call. If everyone here is
tied-up at any particular moment, we will call back within 4
hours...guaranteed."

In addition to its recent release of Version 12.0 of Vi-Spy, RG Software
has introduced an anti-virus product for networks. The product, Vi-Spy
Universal NIM (Network Installable Module), is designed to work in any
network environment. RG Software Systems, Inc., a privately held company,
was founded in 1984 by Mr. Glath. In 1989, Vi-Spy was the first commercial
anti-virus software to take advantage of scanning technology. It is sold
primarily in the U.S. and Europe. RG Software can be reached at 6900 E.

Since beginning in 1989, Virus Bulletin has been recognized as the foremost
international publication on computer virus prevention, detection, and
removal. The monthly newsletter is published out of Abingdon, England and
distributed around the world. Advisory board members include
representatives from IBM Corporation, Digital Equipment Corporation,
Purdue University, Defense Research Agency-UK and Ziff Davis.
