NCD BREAKS $1,000 BARRIER FOR COLOR X TERMINALS; USER CAN COMBINE
ENTRY-LEVEL BASE WITH LOW-COST PC MONITOR

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 5, 1994 -- Network Computing Devices, Inc., has
broken the $1,000 barrier for color X terminals by reducing to $845 the
price of an entry-level color X terminal base electronics unit which can
work with a low-cost color PC monitor of the user's choice.

NCD has reduced by 47 percent (from $1,595 to $845) the price of its ECX
color X terminal base, an MC68020-based unit with which the user can
combine any SVGA VESA-conformant multisync monitor. The reduction applies
to quantity purchases of six or more units ("six-packs") of the product.

Lorraine Hariton, NCD vice president of marketing, said the move "signals a
price breakthrough for color X terminals, which, even at the low end, have
been priced at $1,500 to $2,000. With a color base finally available for
well under $1,000, the user can go out and buy an inexpensive PC monitor
and have a complete X terminal for about $1,000 -- a price more typical of
low-end monochrome models."

The ECX, introduced in late 1993, offers a PCMCIA slot for Flash memory or
I/O functions (e.g., LAN interface or modem) and is compliant with EPA
Energy star guidelines for minimizing power consumption.

The new six-pack multiples pricing has also been applied across the rest of
NCD's X terminal product line, representing discounts of 20 to 35 percent
off the single-unit prices. Users can select six or more units of a single
product, or can mix and match multiples of complete terminals and bases,
color and monochrome units, and a variety of screen sizes. The six-pack
pricing is effective immediately.

New 17-Inch Model with Lower-Cost Monitor Added

NCD has also introduced a new high-resolution 17-inch monitor option for
its high-end MC88100 RISC X terminal base. The new NCD17fs model is priced
at $2,995 (six-pack pricing) -- $1,000 less than the NCD17cr, which offers
the same RISC base but with a Sony Trinitron monitor. NCD will continue to
offer the NCD17cr.

The new monitor offers the same 1280 x 1024 resolution and 70-Hz refresh
rate as the Trinitron unit plus several advanced features, including
Energy Star compliance, which can reduce power consumption by more than 90
percent; digital controls that let the user adjust the screen image's
height, width and rotation; and .27-mm dot pitch for high-resolution
applications.

"The 17-inch high-resolution monitor offers a spacious screen that
accommodates multiple windows yet doesn't eat up the desktop space -- or
the budget -- of larger 19- and 21-inch products," Hariton said. "The new
system will give our users an option that offers more monitor features and
performance for less money."

The NCD17fs is available immediately.
